Glitterbox- June 2017 Review

Glitterbox Subscription Box June 2017

About the box
Glitterbox has just launched, and it describes itself as a makeup only subscription where you can create a specific makeup look around a theme each month. It will include 4-6 full sized items every month.

Price
£15.95, plus £3.95 P&P

What I got
Okay, so I'm going to be straight up here and say I wasn't that impressed with this box. I'll write more about this at the end but first I'll go through what I got specifically in terms of items.

The theme this month, their launch month, is a peach one.

Maybelline Fit Me Blush Light Peach

The first item out the box, my heart sank- this is the Maybelline Fit Me Blush in Light Peach (full size, RRP $5.99). I'm using the term RRP here as this is one of those products that you can only really find on places like Amazon at this point, and this one is £3.99 on there. It is a very foundationy/bronzery looking blusher which I would call peach toned at a stretch. It's not very pigmented but it does feel quite soft when swatching. It comes with a little brush for on the go use.

L'Oreal Color Riche Mono Eyeshadow Pink Up Pink

Next was the L'Oreal Color Riche Mono Eyeshadow in Pink Up Pink (full size, RRP £5.99). It is a single eyeshadow pot, which I would say tends more to pink than peach but does have a lovely shimmer in it which would suit a peach themed eye look if you had other eyeshadows to put with it. It is quite pigmented.

Rimmel Exaggerate Eye Definer In The Nude

This is the Rimmel Exaggerate Eye Definer in In The Nude (full size, RRP £3.99). This is another product that when I searched for it I could only find on Amazon and Ebay- on Amazon at the moment it is selling for £2.99. It is a very concealer coloured stick- in fact if you had the right toned skin you could probably use it as a concealer. It's extremely creamy and obviously got hot in transit as when I went to swatch it the end broke off and I had to swatch it with a blunt tip. I probably wouldn't use this on my eyes, it's so claggy and creamy.

Sleek Matte Me Lip Cream Apricot Blooms

I was pleased to see this in the box- this is the Sleek Matte Me Lip Cream in Apricot Blooms (full size, RRP £4.99). These are really popular matte liquid lipsticks, but it is quite dark considering it's meant to be a peach colour. However, it's still a nice summery colour and since I am a fan of matte lipsticks I will probably get some use from this.

Saturated Colour Lip Vinyl Birthday Suit Peach

The final lip product in the box was the Saturated Colour Lip Vinyl in Birthday Suit Peach (full size, £7.00). I have seen a bit about this brand on Instagram and wanted to try them so I was pleased to see this as well. It is actually quite a good peach colour I think, although again a little dark. It is slightly sticky but not in a lip gloss sticking to everything sort of way.

Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish Peach Smoothie

The last item in the box was the Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish in Peach Smoothie (full size, RRP £3.99). This is probably the only thing in the box that I would agree is actually a true peach colour, and though I'm not a big nail polish lover it is a summery colour and I will probably use it on my toes for when I'm wearing sandals. This was another item I could only find on Amazon and Ebay.

Final thoughts

Glitterbox Subscription Box June 2017 Review

On the one hand, Glitterbox delivered on it's promise of makeup only full sized products, which is great. On the other, I don't think this box is particularly great value compared to other subscriptions on the market. If you look at something like the Look Incredible Box, which is £25 so not much more in price, you get premium brands and much better value. I don't think I will continue this subscription- while I love the idea of a makeup only subscription, I think I am sacrificing good value for the convenience of avoiding skincare and hair care products. I think this box would be good as a started box for a teen or young adult who is just starting out with makeup and wants to try a few things out. But for those of us well into the subscription box game and wanting to experience new brands that you wouldn't necessarily find on the high street, this probably isn't for us.
